AEPLAC PHASE V

AEPLAC Phase V operates in an environment of Armenia-EU relations guided by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) since 1999. The PCA contractual framework has been developing in the recent years under the influence of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) and Eastern Partnership initiative (EaP).

To implement the ENP Action Plan, Armenia has endorsed a List of Measures for the period of 2009-2011. The country wishes to make full use of opportunities available under the EaP, by moving to negotiations on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and Visa Facilitation Agreement, which would pave the way to a new enhanced agreement with the EU.

The focus of AEPLAC Phase V is laid on support to capacity building of Armenian institutions directly involved in the implementation of the EU-Armenia ENP Action Plan. AEPLAC V also promotes visibility of EU and Armenia's European integration in the country and closely cooperates with the EU Advisory Group to Armenia.

EASTERN PARTNERSHIP IN CONCRETE TERMS: II Capacity building workshop for journalists

On 26 June 2010, the Armenian-European Policy and Legal Advice Centre (AEPLAC) in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Armenia and the EU Advisory Group organised a second workshop for journalists on the "Eastern Partnership in Concrete Terms".

The second workshop provided background information and guidance on three broad areas of the Eastern Partnership: political dialogue, economic integration and people to people contacts. Trainers also analysed articles produced by the participants as a result of the first workshop and moderated a discussion of those. Then they offered advice to participants on development of media reports in proposed concrete fields. As a result, trainees produced an outline and main message(s) of prospective reports.

The event is part of a comprehensive capacity building programme for selected Armenian journalists working on the EU. The programme comprises of two capacity building workshops, site visits, a study visit to an EU member state, as well as subsequent networking.

During the first workshop, held in Tsakhkadzor on 5-6 June, journalists were presented with the background and rationale of the Eastern Partnership and its implications for Armenia. The training concentrated on improving their journalistic skills and suggesting ways of making EU and EU-Armenia cooperation newsworthy.
